Displacement Series
The “Displacements” series began as a reaction to the fracking. The first prints contain faint maps of US fracking sites with layered circular patterns. The circles are an abstract representation of bore holes from fracking. Circle patterns distort the contour mapping of the earth with layers of linear complexity and contrasting color. The results can create perceptual color shifts and optical illusions of rotational movements. In some prints, the layering alters the map of the earth’s terrain to the point of being invisible or ghostlike. Seeing the earth (nature) in constant flux and dissolution whether by human intervention or natural process is a central idea referenced in this series.
As a painter, I use printmaking as an extension of drawing creating one of a kind images versus editions.
